Backed by the French state, Montpellier Mediterranean Metropolis and the City of Montpellier, the Public Establishment of Cultural Cooperation MoCo - Montpellier Contemporary (EPCC MoCo) brings together three major cultural institutions in the region: Montpellier Ecole Supérieure des Beaux-Arts (MoCo-Esba), the contemporary art centre La Panacée (MoCo-Panacée), and Hotel Montcalm (MoCo-Museum), which will become an international exhibition venue and figurehead of the group when it opens after renovation in June 2019.

The multi-site EPCC MoCo is the first institution to cover the whole vocational stream of the contemporary art world, from training to exhibition to mediation. The aim is to make Montpellier a Mediterranean stronghold of contemporary art.

1 Director of programming / exhibitions - ref: 2018-40

Employment framework of attachés – Category A
Job description : Working under the general director of EPCC MoCo, the director of programming and exhibitions is responsible for the conception and realisation of EPCC’s programming.

Main responsibilities :

  • In close collaboration with the general director, define, conceive and manage EPCC MoCo programming: define exhibition topics, choose artists and artworks, write exhibition projects, validate texts, etc.;
  • Plan and organise exhibition and events calendar;
  • Manage public and curator services;
  • Set and follow budget estimates;
  • Monitor budgets;

Required experience and skills :

  • Excellent knowledge of the contemporary art world, particularly public and private collections;
  • Knowledge of national and international cultural networks;
  • Proven experience of organisation of events and exhibitions;
  • General knowledge of administrative, legal and financial rules of EPCC;

Job description : Working under the director of the education department, the study coordinator manages the study and education service, administrative coordination of MoCo-Esba’s pedagogic activities and the development of national and international partnerships.

Main responsibilities :

  • In close collaboration with the director of education and the general coordinator of the artistic and cultural project, work towards MoCo-Esba’s international development: negotiation, drafting partnership agreements, finding exterior funding, etc.;
  • Coordinate between teaching staff and general administration: monitoring budgets, technical and administrative support of educational projects, etc.;
  • Support operation of educational activities: input of teaching expenses, organisation of exams and juries (entrance exams and diplomas), meeting minutes, etc.;
  • Manage administrative, financial and logistic elements related to students: procedures, study and internship agreements, coordination of financial aid, etc.;
  • Organisation and administrative support of "education committees" and "education and student life committees”;
  • Develop study booklets and tools to support student life;
  • Define and implement educational indicators;

Job description : Working under the director of programming and exhibitions, the head of exhibitions is responsible for the general organisation of EPCC MoCo exhibitions.

Main responsibilities :

  • In close collaboration with the director of programming and exhibitions and/or the exhibition commissioner, organise and lead the conception and implementation of exhibitions: define exhibition topics, choose artists and artworks, write exhibition projects, validate texts, etc.;
  • Operational management of exhibition and event assistants;
  • Monitor use of budgets;
  • Plan and organise temporary exhibition schedules;
  • Coordinate exhibitions in relation to artists and other EPCC services (production, registrar, etc.);
  • Coordinate edition of exhibition catalogues;
  • Relations and negotiations with artists and lenders for the exhibitions;
  • Lead coordination meetings;
  • Participate in installation of exhibitions;

Job description : Working under the director of programming and exhibitions and following the instructions of the exhibition managers, the exhibition assistants participate in the development of EPCC MoCo exhibitions and events.

Main responsibilities :

  • Participate in the organisation of exhibitions and supporting events: conferences, seminars…;
  • Participate in writing and following up on dossiers related to exhibitions and events: letters and agreements for loans, co-productions and partnerships, etc.;
  • Participate in writing texts related to exhibitions and events: press kits, catalogues, etc.;
  • Participate in planning and following exhibition and event budgets;
  • Coordinate and diffuse information with the resources department: requests for purchase orders, follow-up of services provided, exchanges with service providers, etc.
  • Participate in coordination meetings and writing reports;
  • Participate in installation of exhibitions;
  • Organise receptions for artists and speakers;
  • Monitor and update dashboards;

Required experience and skills :

Job description : Working under the education manager, the education assistant / receptionist ensures administrative follow-up within the education / studies department as well as operating the reception of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts.

Main responsibilities :

  • Manage the secretariat of the education / studies department;
  • Answer the telephone, distribute communications;
  • Welcome, advise and direct the public;
  • Display internal and external information;
  • Receive special parcels and letters;
  • Process and distribute mail received;
  • Process mail and help diffuse newsletters;

Employment framework for technical assistants - Category C
Job description : Working under the production manager of the EPCC MoCo, the production assistant participates in the assembly/dismantling/maintenance of exhibitions as well as the organisation of events within the framework of the MoCo - Panacea and MoCo - Museum.

Main responsibilities :

  • Participate in the production of MoCo-Musée and MoCo-Panacée exhibitions;
  • Participate in logistical and technical organisation of events: private parties, exhibition openings, conferences, concerts, performances, etc.;
  • Prepare spaces for events;
  • Manage audio/video for events;
  • Participate in event reception and security to ensure events run smoothly;
  • With the curatorial service, ensure proper maintenance of the MoCo-Panacée studios, for the reception of artists, speakers, etc.;

Required experience and skills :

  • Good knowledge of technical equipment: sound/video/lighting;
  • Diverse practical skills: electricity, painting, carpentry, metal work;
  • Understanding of conservation conditions and techniques and how to handle artworks;
