MoCo / RECRUITMENT

The Public Establishment of Cultural Cooperation MoCo - Montpellier Contemporary (EPCC MoCo) is a network formed the French state, Montpellier Mediterranean Metropolis and the City of Montpellier. It brings together three major cultural institutions in the region: Montpellier Ecole Supérieure des Beaux-Arts (MoCo-Esba), the contemporary art centre La Panacée (MoCo-Panacée) and finally Hotel Montcalm (MoCo-Museum), which will become an international exhibition venue and figurehead of the group when it opens after renovation in June 2019.

In combining these multiple sites, EPCC MoCo is the first institution to cover the whole vocational stream of the contemporary art world, from training to exhibition to mediation. The aim is to make Montpellier a Mediterranean stronghold for contemporary art.

1 Art handler - réf : 2018-57

Conservation attaché – Category A

Purpose of position : Working under the director of programming and exhibitions, and alongside exhibition managers and assistants as well as the technical manager, the art handler is responsible for the logistical, technical and administrative management of the movements of artworks related to temporary exhibitions organised by the EPCC MoCo. 

Required competencies :

  • Knowledge: 
  • Good knowledge of contemporary art;
  • Good knowledge of risks, sources and causes of deterioration, storage methods and packaging techniques for works of art;
  • Knowledge of insurance policies in relation to artworks;
  • Knowledge of administrative procedures linked to the movement of works: regulatory frameworks, customs procedures, etc.;
  • Good knowledge of artwork condition reports;
  • Knowledge of public procurement;
  • Management methods and tools via projects and objectives;
  • Oral and written English skills;
     
  • Experience: 
  • Proven experience organising and producing exhibitions and events;
  • Planning and organising missions according to fixed deadlines;
  • Writing technical parts of business consultation dossiers for the packing and transport of works;
  • Seeking authorisations and validations in relation to the loan of artworks; 
  • Planning, organising and supervising the arrival/departure of artworks according to fixed deadlines;
  • Conducting condition reports;
  • Coordinating with other EPCC services;
  • Checking conservation conditions are respected;

Assistant to the director - Réf. Poste : n°2018-02

Administrative assistant – Category C

Purpose of position : Working under the general director, the director’s assistant is responsible for organising the professional life of the general director, acting as secretary and coordinating with department directors. 

Main responsibilities :

  • Manage the general director’s agenda: meetings, appointments, tasks, leave, etc.;
  • Organise the general director’s travel;
  • Act as secretariat and type letters and direction documents;
  • Telephone and face-to-face reception;
  • Open, save and distribute internal and external mail;
  • Organise the filing and archiving of documents;
  • Organise and plan meetings;

Digital communications officer / Webmaster - Réf. Poste : n°2018-05

Administrative / Redaction – Category B

Purpose of position: Working within the communication division and under the EPCC MoCo’s head of communication, the digital communications officer / webmaster is responsible for the implementation of the institution’s digital strategy for its different services (school, production, public service, etc.).

Main responsibilities:

  • Production of EPCC social media content: operational and logistic follow-up from creation to production and uploading according to a dedicated schedule;
  • Update website, research content, writing and publication of articles, management of translations, contact with technical service providers;  
  • Technical and competitive awareness; 
  • Strategy for and management of social media publicity campaigns;  
  • Reporting: project assessment and analysis; 
  • Community management on social networks;  
  • Management of relations with e-influencers; 
  • Development and diffusion of newsletters; 
  • Participate in life within the communication service and the institution;

Professor of photography /  Image creation, analogue and digital techniques  – réf : 2018-26

Professor of art education – Category A

Purpose of position:  Working under the teaching department director, the professor of photography teaches undergraduate and postgraduate photography using teaching methods specific to art schools (workshops, lectures, exhibitions, individual interviews and follow-up on students’ personal work) and in line with the school’s educational project. 

Main responsibilities:

  • Involvement in the regular projects and activities connected to the school and MoCo (Montpellier Contemporary);
  • Participation in education meetings, evaluations and semester reviews, juries, coordination; 
  • With the technicians, organise and manage all the technical aspects of a photography workshop (shooting, studio, development);

Required competencies:

  • Work nationally or internationally recognised;
  • In-depth knowledge of the photographic medium within the field of contemporary art: while photography must be central, it may not be exclusive and can instead offer a wider perspective on image and other visual arts;
  • Educational experience in an art school;
  • Capacity to work with colleagues and incorporate the educational project of ESBA-MoCo.

Purpose of position:  Working under the head of public services, the cultural mediator helps conceive, produce and animate guided tours and workshops for the public. 

Main responsibilities:

  • Participate in the definition, conception and production of cultural mediation projects and public activities;
  • Lead cultural and educational activities (in particular guided visits);
  • Help develop partnerships;
  • Evaluate public projects;

Head of exhibitions (Senior curator) - Réf. Poste : n°2018-55

Conservation attaché – Category A

 Purpose of position:  Working under the director of programming and exhibitions, the head of exhibitions is responsible for the general organisation of EPCC MoCo exhibitions.  

Main responsibilities: 

  • In close collaboration with the director of programming and exhibitions and/or the exhibition commissioner, organise and lead the development and implementation of exhibitions: define exhibition topics, choose artists and artworks, write exhibition projects, validate texts, etc.;
  • Monitor use of budgets;
  • Operational management of exhibition and event assistants; 
  • Plan and organise temporary exhibition schedules;
  • Coordinate exhibitions in relation to artists and other EPCC services (technical production, registrar, etc.);
  • Coordinate edition of exhibition catalogues;
  • Relations and negotiations with artists and lenders for the exhibitions; 
  • Lead coordination meetings;
  • Participate in installation of exhibitions;​

Occasional responsibilities: 

  • Support drafting of communication and mediation documents; 
  • Write "technical" documents, follow-up on public tenders relating to exhibitions and monitor execution;

Purpose of position:  Working under the director of programming and exhibitions, and following the instructions of the head of exhibitions, the exhibitions assistant helps with the production of EPCC Moco exhibitions and events. 

Main responsibilities: 

  • Participate in the organisation of exhibitions and supporting events: conferences, seminars, etc.;
  • Help write and follow up on documents related to exhibitions and events: letters and agreements for loans, co-productions and partnerships, etc.;
  • Help write texts related to exhibitions and events: press material, catalogues, etc.;
  • Help plan and follow exhibition and event budgets;
  • Coordinate and diffuse information with the resources department: requests for purchase orders, follow-up on services provided, exchanges with service providers, etc.;
  • Participate in coordination meetings and writing reports;
  • Help with the installation of exhibitions;
